Some of our team members have been known to play a tune or two, so this study from Gabriele Rotter and colleagues on musculoskeletal disorders and professional musicians struck a chord. From surgery to acupuncture, the treatments examined were as varied as the instruments played.

As professionals dealing with questions of causation, we were not surprised to read that good quality evidence on causality - as well as the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders - were missing from the studies included in the review.

The conclusion?

More well design research required.
