Although medical records are the property of LIME Medicolegal under Australian law, you have right of access to the information about you contained in our records.
Other than disclosures authorised by federal and state law, LIME Medicolegal must obtain a specific consent from you to release information.
LIME Medicolegal incurs costs when releasing patient information and may charge a reasonable fee to offset those costs.
- How can I access my medical records?
All requests must be in writing as a formal letter addressed to bookings@limeml.com.au and must include:
- your name
- your date of birth
- the specific information required
- your signature
- a copy of your photo ID (driver’s license or passport)
In some rare instances, LIME Medicolegal will deny access where it is in the best interests of the individual. The relevant doctor will make this determination.
- Is there a fee to obtain a copy of my medical records?
Yes. We charge a fee of $50 (plus GST).
- How long will it take?
LIME Medicolegal will process your request within a reasonable time –this is generally within 2 weeks of receipt of your application and payment of fees.
We will send your information to your nominated address. Please note that LIME Medicolegal takes no responsibility for lost mail.

LIME Medicolegal has a Release of Information Policy to comply with legal requirements governing release of medical information.
The policies and practices shall be consistent with state and federal laws and regulations that contain provisions relating to the release of information from patient records.
Relevant legislation includes:
- Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009,
- The Queensland Health Act
- Privacy Act 1988.
